Kerala has potential to emerge as industrial state: PM

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11 (PTI) The Centre is making allefforts to improve the connectivity and transportinfrastructure in Kerala to enable the state to become aregional economic hub, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saidtoday.

"Kerala has all the potential to emerge as a majorindustrial state and destination for investment. Its highlyeducated work force makes it ideal for high technologyindustries," Singh said at the Jnanpith award distributionfunction, his first engagement during his two-day visit here.

"The success of the space industry in the state shouldbe replicated in other sectors," he said.

He said the Centre would also support Kerala''s effortsto further expand the tourism industry gifted with some of thefinest natural beauty.

The Prime Minister said it was the natural beauty andallure of Kerala''s forests, beaches and rivers that inspiredgenerations of writers, travellers and poets.

"I hope that Kerala''s economic progress and growth willbe accompanied by a cultural awakening that promotes pride inits people, celebrates their creativity and ushers in allround and enlightened development in the state," the PrimeMinister said.
