Uphold ethics and values of journalism: Hooda to media
Chandigarh, Feb 11 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister BhupinderSingh Hooda today stressed the need for upholding ethics andvalues of journalism to effectively deal with the challengesbefore media and called for measures to check the menace ofsurrogate advertisements.
Speaking at a seminar on ''Challenges Before Media'' byChandigarh Press Club here, Hooda said that if media personsuphold the values of their profession, most of the challengeswould be met.
The chief minister announced to provide Rs five lakh tothe Chandigarh Press Club to organise similar seminars atdistrict headquarters in the state.
Responding to the issue of surrogate advertisementsraised by some of the speakers, Hooda said that he was thefirst to raise voice against this issue and would support tocheck this menace.
He said that while reporting the media fraternity shouldthoroughly investigate the issue so as to project the truepicture.
Outlook, Editor, Vinod Mehta urged the media to maintaintheir credibility. If one has to succumb to pressures in thisprofession, he should better leave the profession, Mehta said.
While referring to the relationship between media andpolitical leaders or business houses, Mehta advised the mediapersons to keep issues bigger than friendships.
At the same time, he advised them to make their owncommandments and before taking any decision, they should askthemselves that would it enhance their credibility.
