Karuna declines comment on 2G scam money to Kalaignar TV
Chennai, Feb 11 (PTI) DMK President and Chief Minister MKarunanidhi today parried questions on reports that 2Gspectrum money was routed to the party''s first family ownedKalaignar TV, which maintained it has no links with the scam.
Speaking to reporters here, he said Kalaignar TVmanagement had already issued a clarification and any furtherqueries were "mischievous."
On AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa''s demand that his family bemade co-accused in the case, he sarcastically remarked thatsuch demands were being made since he had a family.
Stepping up her attack on DMK, Jayalalithaa demanded thatKarunanidhi and his family be included as co-accused in thecase to unearth the "whole truth" behind the scam. "Only thenwill the interests of justice be served."
"It is an exhibition of scientific corruption that one seesas the 2G spectrum scam investigation unfolds," she said in astatement, referring to transfer of funds by some firms ownedby Asif Balwa, arrested in connection with the scam.
Jayalalithaa claimed that the balance sheet for 2009-10 ofCineyug Films, owned by Balwa and Morani, showed an unsecuredloan of Rs 206 crore was given to Kalaignar TV, in whichKarunanidhi''s wife Dayalu and daughter Kanimozhi jointly hold80 per cent stake.
Kalaignar TV said earlier that it had no links with the 2GSpectrum allocation scam in the wake of a submission by CBI ina Delhi court that there was a link between accused ShahidUsman Balwa-promoted Swan Telecom and the channel.
Balwa was allegedly favoured by former Telecom Minister ARaja in grant of UAS licence and scarce radio waves, accordingto CBI submission while seeking further remand of Raja.
"There is no link between the 2G Spectrum allocation donein 2007-08 and the loan transaction that took place betweenKalaignar TV and Cineyug Films private limited in 2009", thechannel Managing Director Sharad Kumar said.
CBI had told the court: "It has also come to light thatthere was a transaction of Rs 214 crore from M/s Cineyug Filmsprivate limited to Kalaignar TV in 2009." Kalaignar TV belongsto Sharad Kumar and others closely associated with Raja.
"The funds were arranged by M/s Cineyug Films from DBGroup companies wherein the family members of Balwa are thedirectors or shareholders", CBI said in its application. PTISA SR APR RA
