Student arrested for murdering storekeeper

Ghaziabad, Feb 10 (PTI) A second year medical studentstudying in a private college in Meerut has been arrested forallegedly murdering a store keeper, police said.

Deewakar, who assisted his father in running a business ofbuilding glass and other hardware items, was taken intocustody last night in Muradnagar town for the murder ofR K Gupta, 52, they said.

The youth wanted Gupta, a storekeeper at HR Institute ofManagement here, to inflate the price of the Rs 13 lakh worthglass supplied to the institute by showing a superior qualitythan was given, they said.

Deewakar allegedly killed Gupta after he refused to do soand threw his body near a canal, they said.

Gupta''s body was recovered yesterday when thestorekeeper''s family in Modinagar informed the police that hewas missing, they said, adding that Deewakar had allegedlyconfessed to his crime on being caught.

Deewakar was produced before the magistrate and was sentto jail under 14 days judicial custody in the case today. PTICORR AVT
