New Delhi, Feb 10 (ANI): Rajasthan Minister of State for Panchayati Raj and Waqf Amin Khan resigned on Thursday after his remarks on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil triggered off a controversy.

"The Minister quit his post and his resignation has been forwarded to Governor Shivraj Patil for acceptance," Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told reporters in New Delhi, and added that everyone should respect the dignity of the post of the President.

The President's office reacted sharply after the Minister's comments and reportedly asked the Rajasthan Governor Shivraj Patil and the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to ascertain facts and take 'appropriate action if necessary'.

Khan was asked to resign after he was quoted as saying that President Patil used to be a personal help in former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's house. (ANI)
