Morbi''s tile units suspend production as stocks accumulate

Rajkot, Feb 10 (PTI) Over 200 wall tile making unitsin Morbi town of the district have decided to suspend theirproduction for 25 days following huge accumulation of unsoldstock.

"We have decided to suspend production for at least 25days from today till March 5 to clear the huge accumulation ofwall tiles," President of Morbi Wall tiles Association,Rajubhai Patel, told PTI here today.

The tile units had increased their prices by over tenper cent to factor in the hike in fuel and raw material.

However, that affected the demand and the units are nowstacked with huge stocks of wall tiles, he said.

Patel said that he was hopeful that the suspension ofproduction would help the units to dispose off their stocks.

Morbi is a hub of ceramic industry in the country.

There are over 200 wall tile making units here which togetherprovide jobs to over one lakh people who would now be withoutjob for 25 days.
