Indian family still clueless about progress in apartment burglary case in Dubai
Dubai, Feb 10(ANI): Seven months after 100,000 dirhams worth jewellery was stolen from his Dubai apartment, an Indian executive remains clueless of the progress made in the case.
M. Jain was in Mumbai with his wife and two children when his three-bedroom apartment near landmark Lamcy Plaza was burgled on August 18 last year, Gulf News reports.
His maid's sister discovered the theft after she found the main door of the apartment open and an empty handbag lying at the entrance.
Jain flew back to Dubai the following morning, by when the police had already begun its investigations into the burglary.
"The jewellery along with cash was emptied out of the locker in our steel cupboard in the main bedroom which was locked," said Jain, adding that none of the other valuables in the house had been touched, including two watches and two gold rings kept on a dressing table next to the cupboard.
He said that the police caught four Albanian suspects within two days of the theft, one of which was identified by a neighbour who had noticed him coming out of the apartment and had even gone down the elevator with him.
Jain and his wife, who had given the police a list of the stolen items, were asked to identify their items from some jewellery recovered by the police. "Unfortunately, nothing was ours," he said.
"The police, CID and the Public Prosecutor have been very helpful and courteous. I have enough confidence in the authorities that if the jewellery is found, it will be returned to us," said the victim.
"But we have no feedback now. Whom do we approach? If for any reason the case is to be dropped, we should be informed," Jain added.
Just last week, another Indian, R. Bhatia, said he lost jewellery worth 80,000 dirhams when his three-bedroom apartment in Mankhool was broken into while he was away in India on vacation in August last year.
After a series of investigations and a few arrests, the case was closed due to a lack of evidence against the suspects. Bhatia has been trying to appeal to the authorities to reopen the case. (ANI)
