Agartala civic body Chairman passes away

Agartala, Feb. 9 (PTI) Chairperson of the AgartalaMunicipal Council Sankar Das passed away today in New Delhi,family sources said.

Das, 64, is survived by his widow, Fulan Bhattacharya,a journalist, and a daughter.

Das was admitted to All India Institute of MedicalSciences (AIIMS) folowing a cerebra-vascular attack on January25 evening.

His mortal remains would be brought here thisafternoon.

He was re-elected to AMC only recently as CPI(M)candidate and was made the chairperson for the second term.

A lawyer by profession Das was popular in thecultural and literacy circles of the state.

The ruling CPI-M expressed it''s condolence to thebereaved family and described his death as an irreparableloss.
