Operation launched to rescue kidnapped WWF officials

Kokrajhar, Feb 8 (PTI) Security forces today launchedintensive search to rescue the six kidnapped WWF officials inlower Assam''s Kokrajhar district.

"The army, BSF, police and SSB have launched anoperation to rescue the officials and care will be taken aboutnot jeopardising their safety," Kokrajhar DC Donald Gilfellontold PTI.

He said the administration would take all steps to getthem released and nab the culprits.

The six, engaged in census work of tiger and elephantinside the Manas Tiger reserve, a world heritage site, werekidnapped by miscreants when they were on duty.

Condemning the abduction, the ULFA appealed to theabductors to release them unharmed.

"The officials belonged to the world-famousorganisation like WWF and were engaged in an important task ofanimal census," the ULFA said in a statement.
