HC asks state to implement guidelines for Ganesh idols
Aurangabad, Feb 8 (PTI) The Aurangabad bench of BombayHigh Court today asked the state government to ensure thatthe idols of Lord Ganesh were not made from hazardousmaterials, and the guidelines of the Central Pollution ControlBoard in this regard were followed.
Court was hearing the PIL filed by anti-superstitionactivists Narendra Dabholkar and Avinash Patil.
The petitioners had stated that various chemicals andmaterials like plaster of Paris, plastic paints, distemper,copper powder, oil paints, golden powder, varnish, fevicoletc are used for making Ganesh idols.
Since the idols are immersed in the water, thesematerials pollute water bodies, PIL said.
