Ensure strict implementation of helmets order
Kochi, Feb 8 (PTI) Kerala High Court today directed policeto striclty ensure that two wheeler riders wore helmets andobserved that the statements made by ministers and otherpublic persons against implementation of the provision shouldbe ignored.
The direction was issued by a division Bench comprisingJustice C N Ramachandran Nair and B P Ray while consideringcontempt petition filed by George John seeking direction toDGP to give instructions to subordinate officers to complywith High Court Judgement making it mandatory for two wheelerriders to wear helmets.
The bench said the petitioner can bring to the notice ofinsurance companies for making provision to exclude libailityof insurer for payment of compensation to two-wheeler ridersnot wearing helmets. The court reminded the police thatsupport of ministers cannot not be a defence in contemptproceedings.
