Sonowal quits AGP for ''links'' with AUDF
Guwahati, Feb 7 (PTI) AGP heavyweight SarbanandaSonowal today said he decided to quit the party after beingdisillusioned by its policies, including links AUDF.
"AGP leaders including former chief minister PrafullaKumar Mahanta and president Chandra Mohan Patowary''s closelinks with the Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) has forcedme to leave the party," Sonowal told reporters here.
The former AGP MP is scheduled to join the BJP in thepresence of party president Nitin Gadkari in a rally inDibrugarh tomorrow.
The former All Assam Students Union (AASU) leader alsoattacked AGP leaders for their alleged failure to protect therights of the indigenous people.
"Projecting themselves as a regional party, the AGPhas failed to protect the rights of the people for which Ihave taken the decision to join the BJP," he said.
"I have made it clear to the BJP that the rights ofthe indigenous people should be protected and their problemshighlighted in the national level," he said.
