School van driver shot dead from close range in Surat

Surat, Feb 7 (PTI) A school van driver was shot dead fromclose range and robbed off his gold jewelery by threeunidentified persons today in Pandesara area here while he wason his way to drop students, police said.

The incident took place near Raj cinema in Bamrolilocality where one Kanti Patel (52) was shot thrice from closerange by the unknown trio, they said.

According to police, Patel was a wholesale dealer ineggs and also used to drive a school van in the morning.

Today, when Patel was on his way with some school kids hemade a short stop at his shop following which the trioforcefully entered his van and looted the gold jewelery on himand shot him dead on the spot, police said.

The accused then fled the scene and a case has beenregistered, they said adding investigations are on.
