Malaysian govt. urged to recognise Malay-Indians' roles in country's development

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 8 (ANI): A Malaysian group called the People's Service Movement has reportedly urged the government to give due recognition to Malay-Indians who have played major roles in the country's development.

The Star quoted the group's spokesman S. Sinappan as saying that the Indians, through their hard work and sacrifices, have made huge contributions in developing Malaysia's plantation, shipping, transport and building sectors since the early years of Independence.

He lamented the fact that the lack of historical records and proper documentation on the Indian community's contribution in the country's development have led to some people questioning their loyalty.

"Their lack of knowledge has led to them being labelled as pendatang (immigrants)," he said.

Sinappan also urged Indian-based organisations and political parties to join forces to set up a museum to feature the contributions and sacrifices made by the community for the country's growth, the paper said. (ANI)
