Indian-origin bride's murder during honeymoon in Cape Town was unintentional: Hitman

Cape Town, Feb 8 (ANI): The revelation of a statement by one of the gunmen accused of killing an Indian-origin bride during her honeymoon in Cape Town last year, saying that they never intended to kill Anni Dewani, has raised doubts on police claims that her husband Shrien had plotted the murder.

Mziwamadoda Qwabe had told detectives, five days after the murder, that the hijacking was planned but Anni's death was not part of their plot, the Daily Mail reports.

In his statement, revealed for the first time, Qwabe had claimed: "We did not plan to kill her."

The testimony has come as a sigh of relief for Shrien, who has been claiming that South African authorities have victimised him for concealing their country's sky-high crime rate, and safeguard their tourism industry.

Twenty-eight-year-old Anni was killed on November 13 last year after the taxi she and her husband were travelling in was hijacked as it passed through the Gugulethu township on the outskirts of Cape Town.

Earlier, the couple's taxi driver, Zola Thanga, had claimed that Shrien had paid them to have his wife killed in South Africa. (ANI)
