Govt�s move extending ESI Act to edun institutions challenged
Chennai, Feb 7 (PTI) Managements of Coimbatore AnnaUniversity Affiliated colleges has challenged the Tamil Nadugovernment notification to extend Employees State InsuranceAct to educational institutions, excluding government andgovernment aided institutions.
In their petition, the Association contended that thenotification was never published in official gazette asrequired by the Act.
The Association said its members had received a noticedated 4th January from ESI Corporation directing them toregister with them for purposes of the Act and theypreferred a petition before the High Court.
They contended that additional financial implication andburden imposed by the state government by extending provisionsof the Act to educational institutions was not taken care ofthe fee fixation committee while fixing the fee.
When the matter came up for hearing Justice K Suguna,directed the government to get instructions and postedthe matter after 10 days.
