BPRL announces natural gas discovery in Mozambique

Mumbai, Feb 7 (PTI) Bharat PetroResources Limited (BPRL),today said that Anadarko Petroleum Corporation of the US, hasinformed that the Tubarao exploration well drilled inMozambique has encountered more than 34 net metres of naturalgas.

BPRL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharat PetroleumCorporation, a leading Indian state-run major while AnadarkoPetroleum is the operator of the block.

The Tubarao exploration well drilled in the Rovuma basinoffshore Mozambique has encountered more than 34 net metres ofnatural gas pay and no water in a high quality Eocene-agereservoir that is separate and distinct from the hydrocarbonaccumulations in the three previous discoveries in theWindjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta wells in this basin, apress release issued here stated.

The Tubarao discovery well was drilled to a total depthof around 4,237-metres in water depths of approximately 900metres.

"The operator (Anadarko) has informed that the discoveryat the Tubarao prospect opens an entirely new play style,which has additional opportunities in Mozambique''s OffshoreArea 1. Also, this is the fourth significant discovery in theoffshore Rovuma Basin and it further strengthens confidence inthe operator''s geologic and geophysical models of the basin,"the release said.

BPRL Ventures Mozambique B.V., an overseas subsidiary ofBPRL, holds a 10 per cent participating interest (PI) in theblock. Anadarko Petroleum Mocambique Area 1 Lda, an affiliateof Anadarko is the operator of the approximately 10,500 squarekilometre block with a PI of 36.5 per cent.

The other consortium members are Videocon MozambiqueRovuma 1 Limited, Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore, Ltd,Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1, Limited and Empressa Nacional deHidrocarbonetos E.P (ENH) of Mozambique, who are carriedthrough the exploration phase.
