Hyderabad, Feb 8 (PTI) BJP''s Andhra Pradesh unit todayorganised sit-ins across the state protesting the delay in therelease of funds for scholarships and reimbursement of feesfor economically backward students.
Protests were organised in front of all districtheadquarters demanding immediate release of funds forscholarships and reimbursement of fees of BC, SC, ST andminority students.
State party chief G Kishan Reddy, former Union MinisterBandaru Dattatreya, national secretary K Laxman and otherparty leaders participated in the sit-in at Indira Park inHyderabad.
Leaders of various organisations including studentsforums, Andhra Pradesh Backward Class Welfare Associationpresident R Krishnaiah, and activist Manda Krishna Madigavisited the place and expressed their solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Kishan Reddy asked thegovernment to set up a separate directorate for implementationof fee reimbursement scheme.
The state government should allot sufficient funds in thebudget for 2010-11 educational year and save the future of 24lakh economically backward students who were eligible for feesreimbursement and scholarship besides making payment of messcharges where they are staying in the hostels, he said.
Peaceful protests took place in various districtsincluding Medak, Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar, Warangal andKurnool districts.
