Rocks slide from hillock, topple homes, 5 die

Srinagar, Feb 6 (PTI) Five people, including threechildren, were killed and an equal number injured when hugepieces of rock slid from a hillock and fell on two houses inin Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The rockslide, triggered by heavy snowing, occurred invillage Garkone in Batalik sector in Kargil, an official ofthe Disaster Management Cell told PTI.

The two residential houses came crashing down when therocks fell on them, he said.

The dead, three of them women, and the injured wereall relatives, the official said.

Five people, trapped under the debris, were rescuedand admitted to the district hospital in Kargil, he said.

The rescue operations were carried out by the civiladministration and the army.
