Police lathicharge villagers

Deogarh (Jharkhand), Feb 6 (PTI) Villagers today made anabortive bid to take away an accused from a police stationlock-up in Deogarh district of Jharkhand leading to alathicharge.

Superintendent of police Subodh Prasad said about 50villagers hurled stones at Kunda police station after theyfailed to take away the accused.

"Mild force was used to disperse the crowd," he said andadded the officer-in-charge of the police station was removedfollowing the incident.

The accused was one of three persons booked forallegedly assualting a woman panchayat member yesterday.

An FIR was lodged against 14 people in connection withtoday''s incident, Prasad said.
