Kashmir division lashed by torrential rains
Srinagar, Feb 7 (PTI) Normal life was disrupted inKashmir division as torrential rains lashed the Valley withQazigund, the gateway town to the Valley, receiving 102 mm ofrainfall.
A MeT department official said they expect a decreasein the precipitation in the next two days but westerndisturbances are still here which can lead to furtherdownpour.
"Qazigund recorded 102.2 mm rainfall which falls invery heavy category," the official said.
The skiing resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recordedmore than two feet snow, he said, adding there are reports ofsnowfall in the upper reaches also.
The summer capital Srinagar, where gusty winds wereblowing since yesterday and continued throughout the night,recorded 10.7 mm rainfall till 8.30 AM.
Heavy downpour was continuing in the city which led todisruption in normal life. The roads were flooded with rainwater and many shops opened late.
In north Kashmir''s Kupwara district, 64.4 mm rainfallwas recorded, the official said.
Kokernag town in south Kashmir also recorded 34.7 mmrainfall.
MeT has forecast rain and snowfall at many places inthe state tomorrow, he said, adding the "system" developed bythe western winds still exists.
