At least 14 killed in Sri Lanka flooding
COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: At least 14 people have been killed and over 1 million affected in Sri Lanka's latest flooding, local media reported Sunday.
According to the Disaster Management Center, 1,053,499 people have been affected by the flooding that has inundated homes, roads, and agricultural lands. The flooding comes less than one month after 43 people were killed and over 300,000 left homeless during January's floods, India's Economic Times reported.
The recent flooding has displaced 237,000 people in the northern and eastern provinces and have been transferred to 653 relief camps set up on higher lands.
Relief efforts include 40 naval units and 7 helicopters, as rescue teams continue to assist the affected.
