Vaiko begins one-day hunger strike against fishermen attacks

Nagapattinam, Feb 6 (PTI) MDMK General Secretary Vaikobegan a one-day hunger strike here on Sunday condemning the"indiscriminate attack" on Indian fishermen by the Sri LankanNavy.

CPI state secretary D Pandian inaugurated the strike. Alarge number of MDMK cadre are also taking part.

A release said MDMK has organised the strike to condemnthe Tamil Nadu and Union Governments for not taking effectivesteps to prevent the attacks on the fishermen.

Two Indian fishermen were allegedly killed within 10 daysby the Lankan navy last month, which led to widespreadcondemnation and saw Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao meetLankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Jan 31 over the issue.
