Transparency needed in day-to-day functioning: J-K DGP

Jammu, Feb 5 (PTI) Stressing on the need of transparencyin the day-to-day functioning of police, Jammu and Kashmir DGPKuldeep Khoda today said steps in this regard would bring outa positive perception about the force.

"Our aim should be to serve and provide better policeservice at all levels," he said addressing ''Police Darbar'' atDistrict Police Lines.

Police has the primary role in maintaining peace andorder in the society to ensure dignity and honour of commonman, he said, adding that "we have to work with moreconsciousness and sincerity to keep the trust of the people."

Talking about various measures, the DGP said that thewelfare of police personnel is on top of the agenda and thedepartment has established a Central Welfare Fund for theirsupport.

In 2010, more than Rs 13 crores have been paid undervarious welfare schemes to the families of serving, retired,families of martyrs and Special Police Officers (SPOs).

Two housing colonies would be constructed at Srinagar andJammu by Police Housing Corporation shortly, he said.

Khoda also handed over the appointment orders to 35 SPOson the occasion. Five constables have been given out of turnpromotion as Selection Grade Constables, while one SelectionGrade Constable has been promoted as Head Constable.
