HC reduces life sentence to murder convict

Madurai, Feb 5 (PTI) Madras High Court Bench here hasreduced the life imprisonment awarded to a man for killing awoman when she tried to prevent her husband being attacked tofive years imprisonment, holding that the accused had nointention to murder her.

A bench comprising Justice Chitra Venkataraman and JusticeSuthanthiram passed the order on a petition by Palanichamychallenging the December 4, 2009 judgement of Karur Districtsessions court convicting him of murder and awarding lifesentence.

The woman sustained fatal injuries when she was pusheddown by Palanichamy during a quarrel between him and herhusband over some money transaction at Subramaniapuram inKarur district in 2009.
