Albania clashes claim fourth victim
TIRANA, ALBANIA: A young Albanian man who was shot in the head during the January 21 anti-government protest has died, becoming the fourth victim in the violence, the Shekulli newspaper reported Saturday.
Aleks Nika, 34, had been in coma since he was shot in the head during the clashes between police and opposition protesters outside prime minister's office building in Tirana. A few days ago, he was transfered to a military hospital in Turkey where he died.
Three people were shot dead in the clashes. Hundreds of people had gathered in the streets and headed towards government buildings as they were calling on the conservative government to resign.
The Socialist Party accused the government of corruption, abuse of power and fraud during the last elections. The party has said that demonstrations will continue until the downfall the coalition government. A new protest rally has been planned for next Friday.
