Six arrested in cheque tampering case in Vijayawada

Vijayawada(AP), Feb 4 (PTI The Vijayawada Police havearrested six persons including a cashier from SBI,Ibrahimptanm branch in connection with cheque tampering case.

Two persons in this case are still absconding.

The DCP B Ravindranadh Babu said that one of the accusedpurchased a multi city cheque from Hariyar Co-operative Bank,Karnataka for Rs 500 and tampered it to make it that ofRs 9 lakh. The cheque was presented in State Bank of India,Ibrahimpatnam for encashing. On the same day the accusedwithdrew cash of Rs 7 lakh.

When SBI sent the cheque for clearance, the fraudcame to light and the SBI officials filed a case with theIbrahimpatnam police.

After the investigation, the police identified the sixaccused and recovered Rs 2.10 lakh from them before bookingthem in the case.
