Rajkot Municipal Corp budget for 2011\12 at Rs 787 crore

Rajkot, Feb 4 (PTI) The standing committee of RajkotMunicipal Corporation today approved Rs 787.14 crore budgetfor 2011-12 for the city, marginally lower than that wasproposed by the Municipal Commisioner.

Talking to media persons here, RMC Standing CommitteeChairman Narendra Solanki said the commissioner DineshBrahmabhatt had proposed a budget of Rs 804 crore. However,the committee did not approve the expenditure of Rs 17.2 croreas suggested by the Commissioner on administration expanses.

Besides, the Commissioner''s proposal to double thewater charge was also dismissed by the Committee, Solankisaid.

"We did not want to impose undue burden on people andtherefore the proposal to double the water charges has notbeen approved", Solanki said.

However, the Standing Committee has approved Rs twocrore to implement the commissioner''s proposal to instal flowmetre which would help control wastage of water, the Chairmansaid.

The budget has allocated Rs 13.10 crore for concreteroads and Rs 31.90 crore for starting Bus Rapid TransistSystem (BRTS), Solanki added.
