Raja is a mere follower of NDA: Sibal

New Delhi, Feb 5: Former Telcom Minister A Raja has been arrested by CBI for his alleged irregularities in 2G spectrum scam but his heritor Kapil Sibal does not detect any flaw in his work. He claimed that Raja was just following the policy that was framed by BJP-led NDA regime, in Oct 2003. Arun Shourie was the Telecom Minister between 2003-04.

The Justice Shivraj Patil, one-man panel, was asked by Sibal to probe the irregularities in spectrum scam. The committee's report over the 2G scam nailed Raja for procedural lapses and NDA was also on the list of alleged policy violators.

Sibal on Friday, Feb 4 released excerpts of the findings of the one-man panel. "Raja has always said that he followed past policies and had not deviated from the government's policy but the past policies were themselves wrong since the NDA rule," he said.

Sibal said that 25 specific instances of deviation, inappropriate application and violation of underlying principles of laid down procedure has been documented between 2001 and 2009.

In addition, 15 specific instances of lack of fairness and transparency in procedure adopted by the DoT in awarding licences has been found. He also added that the controversial first-come-first-serve policy was put in practice by the BJP-led NDA government.

“All allotment of spectrum right from 2003 till date was wrong. The people who are making allegations, started all this," Sibal said.
