Naxals should realise democratic path is the best: Nepal Prez
Chandigarh, Feb 4 (PTI) With Nepal finally getting anew Prime Minister, its President Ram Baran Yadav today saidhe was thankful to Maoists in his country for helping end thepolitical stalemate and hoped that the ultra-left extremistsin India too will realise that democratic path is the best.
"I would like to thank the Maoists (in Nepal)... andeven tell the Naxalites that democratic path is always thebest, and you have freedom of speech, and in spite of all thedifficulties you can solve the problem," the visiting Nepaleseleader said in his address at convocation of Post GraduateInstitute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.
The 63-year-old leader, who recalled the difficultperiod Nepal had undergone in the past, sought the support ofthe international community, particularly India and also saidthat his country needs the "blessings of the Indian people togo through the process.
"I also hope that the peace process will speed up andwe will soon have a new Constitution," he said whileexpressing his happiness over the election of the PrimeMinister.
"Earlier, the King (of Nepal) never accepted thedemocratic system, which I think was the most unfortunate,"Yadav, who is on a 10-day visit, said and made a mention ofthe civil war that ended in 2006.
Communist leader Jhalanath Khanal, 60 was yesterdayelected the prime minister of the country with the crucialsupport of Maoists, ending the seven-month deadlock over theformation of a new government after Maoist supremo Prachandaquit the race.
