MCD: EWS admission forms to be given from tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhitoday announced the schedule for admission at entry level forstudents from economically weaker section in MCD andMCD-recognised schools and said the forms will be given fromtomorrow.

The move came just two days after the Delhi governmentasked MCD to implement guidelines on 25 per cent EWS quota inthose primary public schools which have been functioning aftergetting recognition from the civic body.

Chairman of MCD Education Committee Mahinder Nagpal saidthe distribution of admission forms will start from tomorrowand go on till February 15 and these forms can be submittedfrom February 17 to February 28.

According to him, the list of successful candidates alongwith the first waiting list will be displayed on March 5.

Nagpal said March 12 is the date for display of secondwaiting list and March 15 is the last date for display ofthird waiting list. He said that the admission session willclose on March 20.

According to the Delhi government notification, a childbelonging to economically weaker section means a child whoseparents have a total annual income of less than Rs one lakhfrom all sources and who have been staying in Delhi for thelast three years.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had on February 2 said theMCD has been told to implement the EWS admission process intrue spirit as it is mandatory with the enforcement of Rightto Education Act. The MCD will furnish a list of violatingschools so that action could be initiated, she had said.

The MCD had then said notices are being issued toMCD-recognised 773 primary schools, asking them as to whatsteps they have taken to implement the 25 per cent quota.

Nagpal had also warned that action will be taken againstthe schools which do not implement EWS quota.

The MCD has already issued notices in this regard tothose 19 MCD-recognised schools which were allotted land at acost of Re 1 per square metre by DDA.
