Mayawati faces protests by women

Aligarh Feb 5 (PTI) A group of slogan shouting womentoday tried to stop Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati''sconvoy in Salaimpur village near here, holding a stateminister responsible for the death of two persons.

Mayawati, who is on a tour of various districts of thestate to review development activities had arrived here thisafternoon and just when her cavalcade was about to move, abouthalf a dozen women began raising slogans and tried to blockits passage by squatting on the road, eye witnesses said.

The women alleged that a minister in the UP cabinet wasresponsible for the death of the husband of one of theprotestors and the father of another.

However, within minutes, the police officials managedto clear the road by hustling them away.

District officials refused to comment on the incident.

In Aligarh city also a group of fifty women tried toprotest in front of the Chief Minister''s cavalcade allegingirregularities in the Kashiram Garib Awas Yojna but weredispersed by the police.
