Killing schoolchildren, Sanjoy Ghosh mistake, admits ULFA
Guwahati, Feb 5 (PTI) The proscribed ULFA todayadmitted that it was a mistake on its part to have killed 10schoolchildren in Dhemaji district in 2004 and social workerSanjoy Ghosh in 1997.
ULFA ''foreign secretary'' Sasadhar Choudhury toldreporters that the Dhemaji incident and the killing of ruraldevelopment activist Ghosh were "mistakes on the part of theULFA".
On Independence Day of 2004, ULFA cadres triggered ablast in the parade ground in upper Assam''s Dhemaji districtkilling 17 people, including 10 schoolchildren.
Ghosh of NGO AVARD-NE, along with a colleague of his,were kidnapped by ULFA on July 4, 1997 from the river islandof Majuli where they were working for community health anddevelopment.
His colleague managed to escape but Ghosh was killed.
Asked why the group indulged in killing of innocentpeople, Choudhury shot back, "Why did our armed strugglebegin? You have to go back to the prevailing situation in thestate in 1979 when ULFA was born." PTI ESB NN
