Dalits lift sit-in

Hisar, Feb 4 (PTI) Dalits, residents of Mirchpurvillage in Haryana''s Hisar district, today ended their sit-inhere after the state administration assured them of adequateprotection.

A number of dalit families were sitting at the mini-secretariat here for the past seven days demanding security,jobs and their rehabilitation.

They lifted their sit-in after the administrationassured them that it was looking into their demands, Congressleaders Dharamvir Goyat and Suresh said.

The two met the dalits and told them that steps wereunderway to fulfil their demands.

Earlier, the dalits met SP Hanif Qureshi who assuredthem the district administration would provide them security.

Members of the Jat community torched several housesof dalits in Mirchpur last April.
