Dalai Lama funds hospital with his donations

Dharamsala, Feb 5: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama uses the donation he receives to build a hospital in Himachal Pradesh. The information was revealed to RTI plea that sought to know how he utilises the donations received.

The information shows that the Dalai Lama donated Rs 1 crore to a trust that is setting up a multi-speciality medical college in Palampur town of Himachal Pradesh. Apart from that he had appealed his followers to contribute to the trust, which resulted in additional Rs 1.5 crore.

The information revealed has reasserted the Nobel peace laureate's unflinching commitment to the well-being of human being, especially in light of the recent allegations against the Karmapa, the designated heir to Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama, has been living in exile in Dharmasala town of Himachal Pradesh after he managed to flee Tibet following a failed revolt against the Communist regime in China.

The trust that has been subject to the Dalai Lama's kindness is known as the Vivekananda Medical and Research Trust. He donated the Rs 50 lakh twice on Jan 9, 2003 anf Nov 29, 2003.
