Commission to initiate steps to curb atrocity on tribals

Jamshedpur (Jamshedpur), Feb 5 (PTI) NationalCommission for Schedule Tribe will initiate steps to curb theatrocities being committed on people belonging to ScheduleTribe and ensure the implementation of Constitutionalprovisions to protect their interests, commission chairmanRameshwar Oraon said today.

"The rate of atrocity committed on Schedule Tribe wasrising in the country. But the conviction rate against theculprits has been poor," Oraon said in a programme here.

Oraon said Madhya Pradesh topped the list of atrocitycommitted on people belonging to scheduled tribe.

A team of the commission will visit Jharkhand by theend of this month to monitor the condition of the tribals.

He said the team would also visit denselytribal-populated West Singhbhum district, where some casesabout violation of Forest Act was received.
