Army job aspirants indulge in arson

Samastipur (Bihar), Feb 4 (PTI) Applicants forrecruitment in the Army today torched a tractor and peltedstones on buses and trucks to protest against the delay inissuance of character and residential certificates to them bythe district authorities, official sources said.

The angry applicants pelted stones on buses andtrucks on the road near the Samastipur district collectoratedamaging over a dozen of them and set on fire a tractor.

They needed the certificates for the army recruitmentcamp taking place for the youths of Samastipur district onFebruary seven, the sources said.

As the situation appeared to get out of control, thepolice lathicharged on the protesters in which severalapplicants sustained injuries, they said.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar said thecertificates would be issued by the sub-divisional officers(SDOs) concerned, the sources added.
