Sikkim to become fully organic state by 2015

Gangtok, Feb 4 (PTI) Sikkim government has ambitious plansto make the state a fully organic one by 2015 which willmake it a hotspot for organic products, state Agricultureminister D N Takarpa said today.

At the "Sikkim Food Processing Investors meet" here, theminister said efforts were on in that direction and after thegoal was reached in 2015, the value of the organic products ofthe state would yield good value not only in the domesticmarket but also in the international market.

In his inaugural address Takarpa told the investors andstake holders about how the state government had beeninstrumental in taking the agro-based and food processingindustries of the state forward with investor-friendlypolicies.

The state government, he said was also taking it forwardby preparing the people of the state to take over theseindustries as an sector for employment, under the Capacitybuilding programme which is the flagship programme of thegovernment.

The state government was also active and involved inproviding marketing facilities to the people who have taken upagro-based industries as their source of employment, he said.
