Security at unfenced Indo-Bangla border to be tightened
Agartala, Feb 4 (PTI) The Border Security Force (BSF)would enhance forces along the unfenced portion ofIndo-Bangladesh border while paramilitary Tripura State Rifles(TSR) would create a second line of defence in the area tostop movement of insurgents from the neighbouring country.
Official sources today said the decision was taken ata security review meeting following the killing of an engineerin an ambush by ultras of the banned National Liberation Forceof Tripura (NLFT) at remote Shewabari in North Tripuradistrict on January 31.
The meeting, held yesterday, was chaired by DirectorGeneral of Police K Saleem Ali and attended by top BSF andpolice officers.
The meeting also decided to provide proper security tothe construction agencies erecting barbed wire fencing ininhospitable areas and the forces would be made available inthose areas by internal adjustment of the security forces sothat the work for erection of fencing could be expedited, thesources said.
Tripura has 856 km long border with Bangladesh ofwhich 140 km still remained unfenced in hilly, inaccessibleand remote areas which is used by the insurgents as theircorridor to enter into the Indian territory.
