MNS chief Raj Thackeray to appear before Kalyan court tomorrow
Mumbai, Feb 4 (PTI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)president Raj Thackeray would appear tomorrow before a courtat Kalyan in nearby Thane district in response to summonsissued against him for violating a police notice duringelectioneering in the October 2010 municipal elections there.
Raj would appear along with his lawyer Sayaji Nangrebefore the 3rd court of Judicial Magistrate First Class afterlunch recess, sources told PTI.
Police had filed an FIR against Raj on October 30, 2010for violating a notice issued by a DCP prohibiting his stay inDombivali after conclusion of campaign on October 29 for civicelections to Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation.
The notice was issued under section 149 Cr.Pc which bansparty leaders from staying in the election constituenciesafter the campaign gets over.
Despite the notice issued to him banning his stay inKalyan and Dombivali limits, Raj had stayed back after thecampaign concluded on October 29 and October 30 at ManjulaTowers in Dombivali.
As he violated the notice, police lodged FIR against himon October 30 and also filed a chargesheet on December 21 lastyear. Summons were issued by the court of JMFC thereafterasking him to appear on February 5.
Raj is charged with offence under section 188 of IPC forviolating police orders.
