Will quit if Revanna proves allegations, says Yeddyurappa

Bangalore, Feb 3 (PTI) Dubbing as baseless the allegationslevelled against him by JD-S leader H D Revanna that hisfamily members purchased land worth Rs 1,000 crore in benaminames, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said he would quitand take ''sanyas'' from politics if the charges are proved.

"Let Revanna give me documentary evidence within 24 hoursto prove his allegations. I will resign as Chief Ministerand also take political sanyas," the Karnataka Chief Ministerdeclared at a function to mark the inauguration of a communityhall and a high school building here.

Revanna, son of former Prime Minister H D Devegowda, hadyesterday claimed that he had documents regarding purchase ofRs 1,000 crore worth of lands in benami names in Shimogadistrict and in and around the city by Yeddyurappa and hisfamily members.

"My family has not purchased lands in benami names. Theallegations are baseless and aimed to mislead people. IfRevanna has documents, let him submit it to Lokayukta, thecourt or to me", Yeddyurappa, who has been locked in a wordyduel with the Devegowda family, said.

He asked Gowda and also the opposition Congress to waitfor another two-and-a half years and face the electorate, "whowould decide who should rule and who should go home."

The Congress has no experience in working as oppositionand the party had to "wait for at least another 15 to 20 yearsto regain power," he said.
