Tainted persons will not get tickets: Gogoi

Guwahati, Feb 2 (PTI) Conceding that there was"corruption" in North Cachar Hill autonomous councildevelopment fund issue, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi todayannounced "tainted" persons in the Congress party will not begiven tickets for the ensuing assembly election.

"Yes there has been corruption in the N C Hills counciland for that we have ordered a CBI probe. Any person connectedto the scandal of the Congress party will not be given ticketsto contest the election", Gogoi told reporters here.

Coming down heavily on the opposition Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) for disrupting proceedings of the state assembly for thesecond day today on the corruption issue the chief ministeralleged there was large scale corruption also during theerstwhile AGP regime.

"The then chief minister of AGP (now the leader of theopposition) Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was sought to be prosecutedby the CBI for his alleged involvement in the LOC scandal butthe Governor denied permission," Gogoi said.

"The opposition MLAs are not adhering to the norms ofdemocracy. Placards are not supposed to be displayed insidethe assembly but on the streets", he said.

Meanwhile addressing a press conference, AGP presidentChandra Mohan Patowary said the opposition has "demandedaction by the government against the corrupt politicians".

"We do not want discussion inside the assembly we wantaction by the government", Patowary said while justifying theopposition decision to stall proceedings of the budget sessionof the House for the second day.
