Locals set fire to protest anti-encroachment drive

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Feb 03 (PTI) Angry localstoday set on fire the heap of debris after East Singhbhumdistrict administration demolished around 200 make-shift shopsand Kiosks on Dimna Road in Mango during an anti-encroachmentdrive launched in the city before the 34th National Gamesbeginning from February 12.

"The incident occurred soon after the securitypersonnel completed their anti-encroachment drive when somemiscreants set ablaze the heap of debris comprised of plasticsheets and bamboos and other wooden structure," sub-divisionalofficer of Dalbhum, Sunil Kumar Sinha said.

Sinha, who was supervising the anti-encroachmentdrive, said about 150 to 200 temporary shops and kiosks weredemolished in Mango on the directive of Jharkhand High Courtas well as in view of the approaching national games here.

Four fire-fighters have been pressed into service todouse the flames, which engulf the area instantly as thestructures were completely consisted of fire-friendlymaterials.

Jamshedpur will be hosting five events of thenational games including archery, boxing, equestrian,weightlifting and women''s football.
