HC notice to Raj govt for not framing rehab policy

Jaipur, Feb 2 (PTI) The Rajasthan High Court todayissued a show cause notice to state Chief Secretary over thegovernment''s alleged failure to frame a rehabilitation policyfor farmers whose land is acquired.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Mishraand Justice R S Rathore called for an explanation from thestate government on a PIL filed by a former IAS officer RS Gathala.

According to the petitioner, the Supreme Court hadlast year directed all the states to ensure rehabilitativemeasures for those affected by land acquisition proceedings.

He contended that in line with the guidelines, stateslike Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have already framed arehabilitation policy for such farmers.

But despite having made a promise in its electionmanifesto, the Ashok Gehlot government has not taken any stepin this direction, the petitioner alleged and sought adirection to the state government to implement the policy ofsocial rehabilitation.
