Two killed in explosion in college lab

Coimbatore (TN), Feb 2 (PTI) A student and a watchman of aprivate polytechnic college in Udumalpet in Tirupur Districtwere killed and four others injured, when a car engine thestudent was testing exploded, today.

Police said the engine exploded, when an 18-year-oldSecond year mechanical engineering student, Sevvelkumar, wastesting it in the college laboratory.

Two students, a lecturer and a staff member, wereinjured, they said.

The injured have been admitted to the GovernmentHospital here.

Meanwhile, a group of students resorted to picketing onthe road in front of the college demanding compensation to thefamilies of the deceased.

After college authorities and senior police officialsheld talks with them, they withdrew their agitation, policesaid.
