Police lathicharge SP workers in Allahabad

Allahabad, Feb 1 (PTI) Samajwadi Party activists weretoday lathicharged by police while they were demonstrating formore compensation to the families of two labourers who haddied while working on a sewage pipeline here.

Activists of the party''s youth-wing gathered in frontof the state PSC building here demanding a compensation of Rsfive lakh each to the family of the two labourers, who wereburied alive yesterday in a deep pit.

The administration has already ordered a compensationof Rs two lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased.

Police asked the SP workers to disperse after thedemonstration caused disruption of traffic.

When they refused, the police resorted to lathichargeand detained some agitators who were later let-off.
