PC blames UP authorities, says minimal security was provided
New Delhi, Feb 1 (PTI) The Centre today sought toblame Uttar Pradesh authorities for the violent incidentsduring ITBP recruitment in the state, saying that minimumsecurity was provided by the police there despite beinginformed in advance.
Home Minister P Chidambaram said the ITBP centre hadinformed the state police "well in advance" but the statepolice provided only "minimal forces" for the recruitmentdrive.
"I am told that about 50,000 people turned up finally.
Buses were burnt and then the ADGP sent reinforcement," hesaid.
The Home Minister said the state police was obliged toprovide security to any kind of recruitment camp and such aprogramme is not held without the knowledge of the statepolice.
"These were done with the full knowledge and consentof state police. After all we are recruiting boys from thatstate only," Chidambaram said.
For the posts of tradesman, ITBP had soughtapplications from 11 states. Till yesterday, thousands ofaspirants had arrived in Bareilly and their number increasedtoday.
