New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) Congress today dismissedsuggestions that Sonia Gandhi planned to quit as party chiefas she had completed 64 years of age.

"You are totally mistaken ....You are misinterpreting itand tearing out of context and her statement is not liable tobe torn out of context", party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi toldreporters.

Singhvi''s reply came in response to a question whetherGandhi''s praise yesterday for the late Chaudhary RanbirSingh''s decision to take voluntary retirement at the age of 64was a suggestion that she herself planned to quit the topparty post.

"Sabse badi baat hai ki chousath saal ki aayu meinunhone swechha se rajniti se sanyas liya (The biggest thing isthat he chose to retire from politics at the age of 64),Gandhi had said about the late leader. Gandhi turned 65 onDecember 9, last year.

A section of the media had interpreted Gandhi''s remarkabout the Constituent Assembly member from Haryana as a veiledmessage to veteran leaders who cling on to power despite theiradvancing age, to step aside and allow a generational change.
