AP Govt trying to help students duped by American varsity

Hyderabad, Feb 2 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Government todaysaid it was trying to extend all possible help to studentsfrom the state facing the threat of deportation from the USafter they were duped by a nondescript university.

"We don''t set the laws there (in US). We cannotcomment on their legal system. But we are trying to help allstudents legally," Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said.

Replying to questions at a press conference heretonight, the CM said he had written a letter to the ExternalAffairs Minister as well as the Indian Ambassador in the US toextend all legal help to the students.

Reddy termed as "unfortunate" the comments made by aUS Consulate official here on the radio-tagging of the dupedstudents.

Some of the Indian students at the Tri-ValleyUniversity in California are in danger of being deported afterthe college was shut down over alleged visa fraud. Thestudents, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, are being made to wearankle bracelets so that they can be tracked.
