A Raja arrested; Congress-DMK ties at stake

New Delhi, Feb 2: After much grilling and investigation, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) finally arrested former telecom minister A Raja on Wednesday, Feb 2. Raja has been detained in regarding his tainted role in 2G spectrum scam.

Along with Raja, CBI also booked the two aides of Raja - former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura and former aide of Raja, RK Chandolia.

Soon after the arrest, speculation about the ties between Congress and DMK in UPA government raised as many believe that the tie is on a stake. The latest move of the CBI may affect the relationship of Congress-DMK.

While Congress stated, "Law taking its own course. No interference with law," DMK spokesperson tried its best to control the damage.

DMK spokesperson assured, "Congress-DMK ties won't be affected at post-Raja arrest period."

However, Congress-DMK alliance confronted trouble over Raja when PM Manmohan Singh and DMK supremo Karunanidhi were on snubbing mode.

Congress led UPA government also faced the wrath of the Opposition parties as several questions raised over PM and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's silence on the entire Raja and 2G spectrum scandal issue.

  • Criminal Misconduct
  • Policy Violation
  • Favouring specific telecom Companies

The immediate political reactions:

Arun Jaitley: PM should not have lived in a denial mode. PM should have acted earlier. All this while the telecom minister and PM kept on denying any wrong doing in the telecom ministry.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar: This is the first important step, scam is yet to unravel.

BJP: CBI's move at this time is 'too little, too late.'

Subramaniam Swamy: I welcome Raja's inevitable arrest. Yes he had to be arrested before February 5 as my criminal case is coming and my application for issuing a warrant was there. After all my petition has been held now by the judge.

According the latest information, Raja has been accompanied by his doctor at the sake of Raja's deteriorates health condition.

However, main Opposition BJP still continues their demand of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe in the whole 2G spectrum scam and Raja issue.
